Chars74Kデータセットは古典的な文字認識データセットで、主に英文字とカンナダ語（Kannada）の文字を含んでいます。データセットには合計74000枚の画像があるため、Chars74Kと呼ばれています。
ここでは英語の手書き文字データセットのみを紹介します。このデータセットには52種類の文字クラス（A - Z、a - z）と10種類の数字クラス（0 - 9）、合計62種類のクラスが含まれ、3410枚の画像があり、55人のボランティアによって手書きで作成されました。
