この2009年版は、RECS計画の第13回目の反復を表しています。1978年に初めて実施された住宅エネルギー消費調査は、全国規模のサンプリング調査であり、主たる住居としての住宅ユニットとそこに住む世帯のエネルギー関連データを収集します。データは、複雑な多段階、面積確率サンプル設計を用いてランダムに選択された12,083世帯から収集されました。このサンプルは1億1360万世帯の米国家庭を代表しており、2009年のすべての住宅ユニットに関する国勢調査局の統計データは、彼らの米国地域調査（ACS）に由来しています。csvデータファイルには、それぞれのデータ変数の記述的ラベルと形式を含む「レイアウトファイル」が添付されています。「変数と回答コードブック」ファイルには、変数の記述的ラベル、回答コードの説明、および各最終使用モデルで使用される変数のインジケータが含まれています。
