化学ピーリングは、特定の皮膚層を化学的に剥離する方法で、表皮と真皮の炎症後の再生と修復メカニズムにより、滑らかでタイトな皮膚を誘導します。化学ピーリングは3つのカテゴリに分類されます。65,66 浅層ピーリング[α - β -、リポヒドロキシ酸（HA）、トリクロロ酢酸（TCA）10～30％]は基底層を超えずに表皮層を剥離します；中層ピーリング（TCA 30％を超えて50％まで）は上部網状真皮に到達します；深層ピーリング（TCA > 50％、フェノール）は下部網状真皮に浸透します。ピーリングの深さは、使用する物質だけでなく、その濃度、溶液のpH、および適用時間にも依存します。この研究では、アルファヒドロキシ酸、グリコール酸、ポリヒドロキシ酸が知覚される皮膚の滑らかさに与える影響を測定しました。主観的な皮膚の滑らかさのスコアは、20人の参加者のスコアを合算して得られました。グリコール酸、ポリヒドロキシ酸、およびアルファヒドロキシ酸の複数の懸濁液を、濃度レベルを変えてテストしました。懸濁液は、水とグリセリン中に様々なレベルの3種類の酸を含んでいました。
