ニューヨーク市に居住するすべての犬の飼い主は、法律により犬にライセンスを取得する必要があります。このデータは、保健局の犬のライセンスシステム（https://a816 - healthpsi.nyc.gov/DogLicense）から取得されており、飼い主はここで犬のライセンスを申請し、更新することができます。各レコードは、その年中に有効なユニークな犬のライセンスを表していますが、必ずしも犬ごとのユニークなレコードではありません。なぜなら、その年中に更新されたライセンスは、有効なライセンス期間の別のレコードとなるからです。各レコードは、1年間の期間にわたる犬のユニークなライセンス期間を表しています。
