2017年5月27日、カナダ保守党は新しい党首を選出しました。議会で2番目に多くの議席を獲得している政党として、新しい党首は公認の野党代表となります。
党の規則によれば、選挙区（選挙区）の構成員数に関係なく、各選挙区は党首選挙において平等に代表されます。ただし、党首候補者たちは選挙区での得票率を上げるために新しい構成員の登録を努めています。この選挙は即時決選投票で、構成員は投票用紙に自分の希望順位を記入します。いずれの候補者も過半数を獲得しない場合、最も得票数の少ない候補者が除外され、その得票数は投票者の希望順位に基づいて残りの候補者に配分されます。14人の候補者が党首選挙の投票に登録し、両公用語での討論会に参加しました。
サスカチュワン州のレジナ・クアペル選挙区の議員であるアンドリュー・シアー議員は、13回目の投票で50.95％の得票率で党首選挙に勝利しました。これに対し、マクシム・ベルニエ議員は49.05％の得票率でした。
このデータセットは、各候補者が各ラウンドで、州ごとおよび選挙区ごとに獲得した得票率を詳細に記録しています。結果はカナダ保守党のウェブサイト（https://www.intvoting.com/cpcresults/index.html?lang=en#results ）から取得されました。
他の候補者が除外されたときに最も多くの支持を集めた候補者は誰か、また、最も分断的な人物は誰かを調査することは興味深いかもしれません。また、保守党が保持している選挙区で最も成績が良かった候補者は誰か、そして、競争の激しい選挙区で最も良い成績を収めた候補者は誰かを見ることも興味深いかもしれません。おそらく、2015年の選挙での政党支持と党首選挙での候補者支持との間に関係があるかもしれません。
