このプロジェクトの目的は、大型マルチプレイヤーオンラインゲームにおいて出現するさまざまな種類のネットワークの構造を研究することです。トラビアンは、500万人以上のプレイヤーがいる人気のブラウザベースのリアルタイム戦略ゲームです。プレイヤーは、リーダーまたはリーダーシップチームの下で最大60人のメンバーからなる同盟を結成します。各ゲームサイクルは一定期間（数ヶ月）続きます。
このネットワークデータセットは、多重ネットワークの問題、特にコミュニティ検出を研究するために設計されました。なぜなら、同盟メンバーシップの真の情報が利用可能だからです。これは、アーカンソー大学を含む複数の機関の研究者によって行われた仮想組織の研究データから抽出されました。データは、ドイツに拠点を置く3倍サーバー（ゲームサイクルが3.5ヶ月）から収集されました。これらのネットワークは30日間のゲーム期間のものです。
