職業就業統計（OES）と全国賃金調査（NCS）のプログラムは、それぞれの調査の強みと幅を生かして推計を行い、どちらのプログラム単独で提供するよりも職業賃金に関する詳細な情報を提供しています。モデル化された賃金推計は、選択された職務特性と地理的な位置によって、職業の平均時給を年次で推計します。職務特性には、交渉地位（組合員と非組合員）、パートタイムとフルタイムの就業状況、成果給と時間給、職業別の職務レベルが含まれます。
直接推計は、推計対象となる特定の地理的地域からの調査回答のみに基づいています。これに対し、モデル化された賃金推計は、サンプルサイズが直接推計を行うには不十分な小地域の情報を補うために、より広い地域からの調査回答を利用します。モデル化された賃金推計では、広い地域での回答パターンが小地域でも成立するという仮定が必要です。
NCSのサンプルサイズは、OESが地域と職業別に推計を公表しているすべての地域について、地域、職業、職務特性別に直接推計を行うには十分ではありません。NCSのサンプルは、各パネルで約3,300の事業所がサンプリングされた6つの民間産業パネルと、1,600の州および地方公共団体のサンプルから構成されています。OESの完全な6パネルサンプルは、ほぼ120万の事業所から構成されています。
サンプル事業所は、北米産業分類体系（NAICS）に基づいて産業カテゴリーに分類されます。事業所内では、より広い職業定義を代表する特定の職務カテゴリーが選択されます。職務は、標準職業分類（SOC）体系に従って分類されます。
