この顔画像データベースは、アメリカ農業銀行コンピュータビジョンセンター（CVC）のアレイクス・マルティネス（Aleix Martinez）とロバート・ベナベンテ（Robert Benavente）によって作成されました。このデータベースには4000枚以上のカラー画像が含まれており、126人の顔（男性70人、女性56人）に対応しています。画像は正面視の顔を特徴とし、さまざまな表情、照明条件、遮蔽（サングラスやスカーフ）があります。これらの写真はCVCにおいて厳密に管理された条件下で撮影されました。参加者の服装（衣服、眼鏡など）、化粧、髪型などには一切制限が加えられていません。各人は2週間（14日）の間隔を空けて2回のセッションに参加しました。2回の実験で同じ写真が撮影されました。
すべての画像はRGBの生ファイル（ピクセル情報）として10枚の異なるCD-ROMに保存されています。画像サイズは768×576ピクセルで、深度は24ビットです。
男性の画像は「M-xx-yy」として保存されています。未加工の
女性の画像は「F-xx-yy」として保存されています。未加工の
「xx」は一意の個人識別子です（男性は「00」から「70」、女性は「00」から「56」）
「yy」は各画像の特徴を指定します。その意味は以下の表に示されています：
1：無表情
2：微笑み
3：怒り
4：叫び
5：左のライトが点灯している
6：右のライトが点灯している
7：すべての側面のライトが点灯している
8：サングラスをかけている
9：サングラスをかけ、ライトを点灯している
10：サングラスをかけ、適切なライトを点灯している
11：スカーフを巻いている
12：スカーフを巻き、ライトを点灯している
13：スカーフを巻き、右のライトを点灯している
14～26：第2セッション（1～13と同じ条件）
動的システムをテストするために、合計30組の画像シーケンスも収集されました。各シーケンスは25枚のカラー画像で構成されています（サイズは上記と同じ）。
CD1から8には静止画像が含まれています。CD9と10にはこれらのシーケンスが含まれています。
ImageMagick（convertを使用）または他の画像ソフトウェアを使って、生画像を他の形式に変換することができます。convertは無料で提供されるImageMagickライブラリの一部で、どのUnixバージョンでも良好に動作します（NT、VMS、MacOS、OS/2でも正常に機能します）：http://www.wizards.dupont.com/cristy/ImageMagick.html
